Germinating on the windowsill

This week we began the germination process by expanding our peat pellets and planting our seeds indoors. I used a germination tray that came with my gardening bed and planted cucumber, bell pepper, zinnia, and tomatoes. I had accidentally used up a few pellets last week by mistake however I decided to substitute one bell pepper spot with soil from my garden. I hope it is still able to grow into a healthy seedling so I can transfer it successfully into the garden with the rest of them.

Many children learn the process of germination in elementary school for science class. In my experience I grew beans in Ziploc bags to show the growth of the seedling. I remember vaguely being excited by the progress of the bean sprout as it grew to a nice shoot. But other than that, I don’t believe I’ve tried germination on my own. I’m very excited to see the results as it would make growing them outside more successful than my other attempts at vegetable planting.

I found a window on the south of my house. Coincidentally I just planted some flowers on that windowsill and they are growing very healthily in flower boxes.
